Whitkirk Arts Guild is an amateur dramatics society in Leeds. It has been performing to the people of East Leeds and being both a source of entertainment and a creative outlet for the community since its founding in 1952. In 2012 it had its Diamond Jubilee, celebrating 60 years of amateur dramatics in the community and over 180 different plays, pantomimes, musicals and revues.
Background & History
Whitkirk Arts Guild originated as a group affiliated with St Mary's Church, Whitkirk, which supported all creative arts in the community. Over time as the interests of the members changed it became a group which was solely focussed on the performing arts and amateur dramatics.
Whitkirk Arts Guild is still closely linked to the Church, engaging in joint productions and providing its wealth of expertise to support Church events.
Activities
Whitkirk Arts Guild normally stages two productions a year; a family pantomime in the approach to Christmas, and either a musical or revue over the summer. In addition to this Whitkirk Arts Guild occasionally stages plays and smaller productions either independently or in association with larger events in the community.
Outside of stage productions Whitkirk Arts Guild is similarly active, with events throughout the year ranging from social evenings through car rallies to entire weekends away.
